Raquel Haiat, Grade 2 Teacher
BIO: Ms. Haiat’s love for teaching started in Mexico City where she was born and raised. She was part of a tnua called Dor Jadash where she found her passion for non-formal education of Jewish values and traditions. After high school, she moved to Boston, MA to pursue her dream of working with children and families. Since then, she has graduated from Wheelock College of Education and Human Development at Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Developmental Psychology as well as a master’s degree in Moderate Disabilities and Elementary Education. Her passion for learning and teaching has allowed her to be part of the Curiosity and Learning Conference for two years, teach in English as a second language in Perú, and get certified by the Center of Communication and English Language Teaching (CCELT).
My philosophy of education is that... children should learn by experimenting the world around them; skills like learning to wonder, embracing challenges, problem-solving, and mindfulness are very important for children to have for making meaning of their surroundings.
I love teaching second grade because... it’s a year full of surprises! We get to read and learn about many more genres, learn to be scientists and engineers about the world around us, become teachers with our writing, and do hard work to build our mindfulness and emotional wellness skills. Second grade is a time to be adventurous with questions about books, words, strategies, and ideas. I can’t wait to see what this year will bring!
I am excited to teach at Mazel... and be part of a beautiful community that embraces learning through collaboration and experimenting with the world around them. Each year, I look forward to meeting my students and being part of their growth as learners.
